level, pupil reaction, and corneal reflex. However, there were many discrepancies in individual patients so that the vestibulo-ocular reflex afforded useful information additional to that obtained from traditional tests. Bilateral abnormal motor activity or absent pupil reactions were often associated with relatively unimpaired vestibulo-ocular reflex responses. There was no correlation between abnormal breathing patterns and impairment of the vestibuloocular reflex. Caloric tests were carried out in 100 patients within a day of admission. An impaired response correlated with a poor prognosis for recovery.

CERVICAL SPONDYLOTIC MYELOPATHY: THE PATTERN OF NEUROLOGIC DEF ICITS AND IMPROVEMENT FOLLOWING ANTERIOR
We evaluated the specific pattern of pre- and postoperative neurological signs and symptoms of cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) to determine [mdings which had a predictive value for surgical outcome. Consecutive patients with CSM caused by osteophytic ridge or intervertebral disc herniation who underwent anterior cervical decompression and fusion in Loghman Hakim Hospital from 1999-200...
متن کاملFusion rate of anterior cervical plating after corpectomy.
PURPOSE To evaluate the neurological recovery and fusion rate of patients with myelopathy who were treated with anterior corpectomy and anterior cervical plating. METHODS The results of 17 cervical myelopathy patients who underwent decompression and anterior cervical plating were retrospectively reviewed at a mean follow-up of 2 years. RESULTS By Kurokawa score, 82.4% of patients showed exc...
متن کاملChronic hypertrophic nonunion of the Type II odontoid fracture causing cervical myelopathy: Case report and review of literature.
BACKGROUND Complications of nonunited Type II odontoid fractures can range from neck pain to progressive neurological deficit from cervical myelopathy. Rarely, the hypertrophic nonunion requires both anterior transoral decompression and posterior decompression with instrumented fusion. We present a case and review literature around this entity. CASE DESCRIPTION A 68-year-old female presented ...
متن کاملMovement study following anterior cervical decompression without fusion.
Movement studies of the neck have shown that certain patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) demonstrate instability in the vertebral joint immediately above the posterior osteophytic bar. While Cloward's anterior cervical decompression with fusion eliminates the cord or root compressive element, it adds to the hypermobility of the adjoining vertebral segment. In an attempt to reduc...
متن کاملCervical instability in Klippel-Feil syndrome: case report and review of the literature
Background: The authors present a case of cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy in the setting of multiple Klippel-Feil syndrome abnormalities treated surgically with a single-level C3–C4 anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. We discuss the clinical presentation, radiographic findings, and various treatment options for cervical spine abnormalities in Klippel-Feil syndrome. Case Presentation:...
متن کاملOperative Techniques for Cervical Radiculopathy and Myelopathy
The surgical treatment of cervical spondylosis and resulting cervical radiculopathy or myelopathy has evolved over the past century. Surgical options for dorsal decompression of the cervical spine includes the traditional laminectomy and laminoplasty, first described in Asia in the 1970's. More recently the dorsal approch has been explored in terms of minimally invasive options including forami...
